Biography

On Tuesday, November 8th 2011, Anna M. Kaplan was elected as Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman for the Fourth District. In 2007, Anna was elected trustee of the Great Neck Public Library District and served on the Town of North Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals where she had developed a reputation for fair and careful consideration of applications. In 2010, she was officially recognized as a Woman of Distinction by New York State Senator Craig Johnston.
Anna was born Anna Monahemi in northern Iran and raised in Tehran. When the Islamic Revolution took place in 1979, at age twelve she was sent to the United States as part of an international effort to help the Jewish children of Iran leave the country.

Anna graduated from Stern College for Women at Yeshiva University and then Benjamin Cardozo School of Law.
Anna sought election to the Town of North Hempstead Council as a way to give back to the community that has given her and her family so much over the years. Mrs. Kaplan is a twenty-four year resident of Great Neck and the Town of North Hempstead. She currently resides in the Village of Kensington with her husband Darren and daughters Sarah and Taylor.
