Homa Khamsi is born and raised in Iran. she left Iran in 1982 and made California her second home. Homa received her BA degree in Sociology from National University of Iran and her MBA from National University of San Diego, CA.
Homa works at UC Berkeley for the past 24 years. She is Chief Administrative Officer of the Department of Chemistry of UC Berkeley. Homa is proud to be a part of the elite Chemistry Department at Cal (1 in the world), and she is constantly inspired and motivated by the Department's world-class programs and faculty. Homa has numerous awards and certificates, and she is very proud of her two (2002 & 2014) "Excellence in Management" awards from UC Berkeley. Aside from being a fearless leader and manager Homa volunteers her time working with various non-profit organizations. She is the president of the Danville branch of the Iranian Children Cultural & Educational Society (ICCES). Homa is married to her husband Majid Akhavan for the past 31 years and they have 2 very accomplished daughters, Nakkisa graduate of UC Berkeley & UCLA and an attorney in Los Angeles, and Nikta a graduate of UC Davis and a Program Assistant in Oakland.
