I was born near the Caspian Sea in Iran, and raised in Northern California. Today I am a Bay Area journalist and podcast producer primarily sharing stories about health and immigrant communities in California and internationally.
I report for Public Radio International The World in Boston, BBC World News Service Outlook in London, KQED Public Radio in San Francisco, Philosophy Talk at Stanford University, Vice Magazine and more. I am the recipient of a 2013 International Center for Journalists fellowship, where I covered LGBT Iranian refugees in Turkey seeking asylum in Canada and the United States. www.shukakalantari.com
