Kiana Taheri leads Mayor Eric Garcetti's Smart City and Behavioral Science initiatives. For the past three years, Kiana has worked as part of his Innovation Office, driving changes in policy and social outcomes through the implementation of Smart technologies and human-centered service models. Kiana first began her work in the Los Angeles City Hall when she received the prestigious David Bohnett Fellowship during her graduate studies at UCLA, where she completed her Masters Degree in Public Policy. Prior to graduate school, Kiana spent several years conducting social-behavioral research in various academic labs, building on her undergraduate studies in Psychology, Criminology, and Math from the University of Utah. Kiana was born in Utah, but spent most of her formative years living in Tehran, and has deeply enjoyed getting reconnected with her Iranian community since moving to Los Angeles in 2013.
