Bahar Tavakolian — Co-Chair, New York Chapter

Bahar Tavakolian’s journey from Tehran to Cornell, and from biotech to real estate, is a celebration of bold pivots and unshakable curiosity.

After moving to the United States as a teenager, Bahar earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University. She went on to work in aerospace, teach at UCLA, and join a Princeton biotech startup, where she was part of the founding team developing DNA diagnostic micro-devices. Her leadership helped guide the company through a successful IPO.

Her second act began in New York City’s luxury residential market. What started as a career shift soon became a defining chapter. Today, Bahar is recognized among Manhattan and Brooklyn’s top brokers, known for her analytical rigor, discretion, and instinctive grasp of value and design.

She is also the co-author of Persian Feasts, a visually stunning cookbook published by Phaidon that celebrates the richness and artistry of Persian cuisine. Part culinary guide and part cultural tribute, it reflects Bahar’s deep pride in her heritage.

A respected voice in her field, Bahar writes regularly on market trends, urban development, and the economic forces shaping New York real estate. Her insights reflect both scientific discipline and strategic market understanding.
