As an advocacy member of physical education and health in the state of New Jersey, Dr. Abdi travels to Washington, DC every winter to gain support of the Congress on funding for public education especially for physical education and health programs. It has been an effort in the past few years to synchronize the Congress to fund the ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. The physical education and health were added to the Bill which made these 2 subjects under ‘well-rounded’ education. She was one of the educators traveling to DC demanding to make sure ‘physical education & health’ is clearly stated in the language of the Bill. This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students that replaced No Child Left Behind.
