Biography

Gisue Hariri is the Co-founder and Creative Principal Director of Hariri & Hariri-Architecture, a New Yorkbased
multi-disciplinary architecture & design firm established in 1986 by Iranian-born Cornell-educated sisters
Gisue Hariri and Mojgan Hariri. Today they are celebrated as two of the most accomplished women in
American architecture & design and are described by Dwell Magazine as one of the most progressive and outof-the-box
firms currently working in the United States. Their projects run the gamut from luxury residential
developments and hotels to bathroom accessories to single-family houses to high-concept, high-tech
experiments. For the Hariris, design is a holistic, boundary-less enterprise ranging from master-planning and
architecture to interior design, furniture, lighting, product design and jewelry.
Gisue Hariri has devoted time to teaching since 1987, to emphasize the importance of Academic and
Philosophical discourse within the context of a professional practice. She has been an Adjunct Professor of
Architecture at Columbia University, a Visiting Critic at Cornell University, Mc Gill and Parsons School of
Design. Many prestigious institutions and publications, such as The Cooper Hewitt Museum, SOM Foundation
and The AIA have sought her out to serve on their annual award jury panels. Gisue Hariri has been a speaker
at the BLOUIN Creative Leadership Summit in NY and the Iranian-American Women’s Leadership Conference
in LA & NY- 2013. She lectures on the work of Hariri & Hariri extensively at a variety of institutions and
architectural schools, notably The Getty Center, Berkeley Art Museum, and Dallas Museum of Art, Museum of
Contemporary Art San Diego, UCLA, SCI ARC, Cornell, LACMA, and Razi University in Iran.
The Hariri’s have been honored with numerous awards including the ‘2015 American Architecture Award’ from
The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the 2005 “Academy Award for Architecture”
from American Academy of Arts and Letters. They were inducted into the ʻDesign Hall of Fameʼ in 2006 by
Interior Design Magazine & in 2010 were named as one of today’s greatest talents in Architecture & Design in
AD-100 by the prestigious Architectural Digest. In 2014, Ms. Hariri was included on the DESIGN POWER-100
list by Surface Magazine.
The firm’s work with leading international corporations, developers, fashion labels, along with cultural,
institutional and high profile private clients demonstrates the firm’s multi-faceted practice with an acclaimed
Swarovski ‘Crystal Palace Collection’ chandelier, ‘Kryptonite’ couture jewelry collection; and the recent BEST
OF YEAR ‘Crystalline bath collection for AFNY.
Through dedication to the research and construction of innovative ideas, the firm has been commissioned for a
number of high profile projects, including the now iconic Sagaponac House, the first of numerous homes by
internationally acclaimed architects gathered by Richard Meier and the late Coco Brown for the ‘Houses at
Sagaponac development in Long Island, New York. Additional celebrated recent projects include the $80-
million Sternbrauerei Salzburg (a world-class residential development in Salzburg, Austria) known as ‘The
Jewels of Salzburg’, a mixed-use residential/retail project in Xi’an, China, an office/residential building in Dallas’
new Arts Center, and a residential development in Cape Cod. The firm is involved in numerous commercial and residential projects currently in development in the United States & the Middle East.
