Irvine, CA, November 2, 2014 – Nearly 600 people from all walks of life gathered at The Beverly Hilton to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Iranian American women throughout the United States and address issues impacting various communities and societies.

The conference kicked off with a letter from President Obama, congratulating the Iranian American Women Foundation on hosting its 7th conference and acknowledging the contributions of the community and its role in shaping the nation.

Beverly Hills Mayor Lili Bosse honored the foundation with a proclamation, congratulating it on its years of success and declaring November 2, 2014 Iranian American Women Day in Beverly Hills.

“The highlight of our program was to bring Iranian American women under one roof to celebrate each other’s success despite our backgrounds, religious or political differences,” IAW Foundation Founder and President Mariam Khosravani said. “It was all about our unity and being proud Iranian American women.”

The all-day Leadership Conference, presented by the Iranian American Women Foundation, featured eight sessions that explored various topics on how to lead a successful career, women’s role in philanthropy, technology and following one’s dream. Topics viewed as taboo within the Iranian and larger American communities were also addressed. They ranged from mental health illnesses to homosexuality and sexual molestation.

The list of distinguished and accomplished women authors, doctors, engineers, philanthropists, educators and corporation directors was endless. Among those serving on some of the panels was President Obama’s personal aide at the House White. A young, vibrant Iranian American, Ferial Govashiri climbed the latter to get to the position she holds today at the nation’s highest office.

Those serving on panels of various subjects also included Goli Ameri, former US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, and keynote speakers included Parisa Khosravi, senior vice president for CNN Worldwide, in charge of Global Relations, and Anousheh Ansari, the first woman space private explorer of Iranian descent.
